Kirsty graduated from the University of Bristol and worked in small animal practice for 5 years before completing an internship at The Animal Health Trust and residency at The Royal Veterinary College. Since then she has worked at Willows Veterinary Referral Centre in the Internal Medicine department. Having completed the Mental Health England first aider training course in 2019 she has developed a keen interest in Mental Health and promotion of improved physical and mental wellbeing in the veterinary profession.

Fergus Allerton

European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine

Fergus works at Willows Veterinary Referral Centre where his interests include gastrointestinal disease, immunology and antimicrobial stewardship. Previously, Fergus completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Liege in Belgium. Fergus is keen to encourage SAMSoc members to be involved in the forum discussions (insert link here) and also to contribute to some of the SAMSoc-led research initiatives (see the Projects Page).

Chris Scudder

Chris currently works as the head of Internal Medicine at Southfields Veterinary Specialists. He graduated from the University of Bristol, worked in small animal first opinion practice for three years followed by a rotating internship back at the University of Bristol and then residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the Royal Veterinary College.

He then undertook a Ph.D studying feline acromegaly at the Royal Veterinary College. Chris’ interests are in endocrinology and haematology. He also owns a cat, a dog and two tortoises.

Sophie Herbert

Veterinary Surgeon

Sophie joined Eastcott Vets in 2011 after qualifying from Bristol University in 2008.  In 2014, Sophie completed the RCVS certificate in Small Animal Internal Medicine and has a particular interest in ultrasonography. Sophie lives at home with her husband and two children and, when she manages to get some free time, enjoys running and swimming. 

Mayank Seth

RCVS, American and EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine

Mayank's main area of research and interest is immune-mediated hematologic diseases and transfusion medicine, having previously completed a fellowship in these subjects at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently engaged in a number of research projects, looking at therapeutic strategies in IMHA, ITP, IBD and IMPA. Mayank is also heavily engaged in post-graduate education, including the training of nurses, interns and residents, lecturing to vets and contributing to case discussions here on the SAMSoc forums.

Andrew Kent

Andrew graduated from the University of Bristol in 2008. He worked within mixed practice and small animal practice before undertaking a residency in small animal internal medicine at the Queens Veterinary School Hospital - University of Cambridge. He gained his European Diploma in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2016. Andrew’s clinical interests include urology, gastroenterology and interventional radiology/endoscopy.


Kerry Peak

Kerry graduated from the University of Bristol in 2010. She subsequently worked in small animal practice for 8 years and completed the RCVS CertAVP in Small Animal Internal Medicine. Kerry joined AMVS in 2018 to undertake a residency in internal medicine, which she completed in 2021. Kerry passed the certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in the same year, thus becoming an ACVIM diplomate and American-recognised specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine. After a brief time away from AMVS Kerry re-joined the medicine team in January 2022. Her main interests are immune-mediated diseases, endoscopy and oncology, although she enjoys all aspects of internal medicine.

Lucy McMahon

Lucy graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1999 and worked in mixed practice for approximately 4 years before returning to the RVC to undertake a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery. In 2004 she started a three year residency in small animal medicine at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals at the RVC. Lucy passed the certifying examination of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2007 thus becoming an ACVIM diplomate. In 2007 Lucy became a lecturer in Small Animal Medicine at the RVC which involved working in the Queen Mother Hospital seeing referral patients as well as teaching undergraduate veterinary students and trainee veterinary nurses. Lucy gives regular CPD lectures to veterinary surgeons and nurses and she is an examiner for the RCVS CertAVP and CertSAM qualifications. Lucy joined Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists in October 2011. Lucy is interested in all aspects of internal medicine but particularly gastroenterology, endoscopy and immune mediated disease. She is an RCVS recognised Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Josh Bleakley

Vets4Pets Practice Owner and Veterinary Surgeon

Josh moved to the Birmingham area after graduating from Cambridge University in 2015 having previously been born and raised in Manchester. His first job was here at Vets4Pets Solihull and due to making lots of meaningful connections with many clients and pets have joined the practice as a joint venture partner.

Josh is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in small animal medicine having done further qualifications which helps him to further investigate and treat patients with the best possible care.
